9/7/08 - End of Blog
I decided today I don't update this enough to make it worthwhile.
Hopefully a more consistent blog with the new site. I'll leave the old stuff up for fun.

6/16/08 - Song and Surgery
Hellloooo again, everyone.
I've been doing very well lately, summer has been treating me great so far, i've been getting lots of things done and have had plenty of time to relax. I've got a lot ahead of me so i'm trying to take advantage of it now...
For those of you who don't know, next monday Im having an operation on my heart. The doctors tell me it's minor, not a big deal, in-one-day-out-the-next kinda thing. I don't get too worried about medical things anyway - there's not much I can do about it either way. So, I guess, wish me luck next monday. I'll post here afterward to let everyone know how it went.
On a much happier note, i've been recording like CRAZY! My studio is set up, it works super smoothly and i'm getting the hang of recording again. I've only been doing covers now, but they're songs I really dig and they're the type of style I've wanted to record for a long time...
The song I recorded this time is called "Girl I Wanna Lay You Down" - i've been researching for a bit trying to figure out the actual story behind the tune... I heard it on an album called "Fly Between Falls" by ALO (Animal Liberation Orchestra) (which by the way is an AMAZING album, thanks to Shannon and Steve for that one!) ALO plays it featuring Jack Johnson, but I have a feeling he wrote it... anyway.
Check out that album, and of course check out my version:
HERE. (click to listen, right click to save.)
-take it easy everyone! peace and love.

Show again.
Soooo, I played the show I last posted about a few days ago. Came out pretty crazy, got to see a lot of good friends and of course support the great cause of fighting cancer!
Plenty of videos and pictures for this one, check it out.
(P.S. there should be links to other videos at the end of this one, there are a few more!)

Show!
Hey duuddess, that's right, I have a show coming up. And actually - it's not an art show. (Well, it might be partially, but that's all in the works too!) I'm actually going to be playing an acoustic set to open up for my best friends band, The Further Adjustments - I'm always pushing people to listen to these guys and there are links all over, so please do!
I'm super excited to play music in front of an audience again, it's been a while. I don't have much original material to play which sort of bums me out but hopefully I can bring some art to give people something to think about.
The show is actually a cancer benefit for my good friend Chad's dad, Steve. Cancer benefits are always a good cause and your couple bucks couldn't go to a better family, trust me! So, if you're in the area definitely plan on making it to this one.
Be on the lookout for a flyer for that show (with full details) in short order!
That's about it for me, busy times! Peeeacce.

New Paintings!
----------------------------------
I started some new paintings this week, I'm not sure if they'll be part of a new series or part of my other one i'm currently working on, but i'm pretty excited about them either way.
Here's the first one I did the other night - it's like a... 4' x 2.5' canvas or something.

This doesn't compare much to the real thing, there are a lot of little texture elements I added with pen that you can't see as easily!
I'll definitely be uploading more of these in the near future, i'm having a lot of fun with them, when I actually get the time to paint.

Updatesss
-----------------------------------
Woaah, winter isn't getting any warmer. Spring better roll around soooon.
Anyway, I'm uploading some school stuff I did, since I have my computer as a tool now i've been getting way more into my assignments.
Here's a quick ad I did for Bakers shoes:

That ad, by the way - was "unacceptable" in my class because I did it on the computer. My teacher said it was a hands-on class.
I guess she operates a computer with her mind.
Whateverr. Here's a quick sketch I did, I decided to turn it into a sticker. I might throw a little joshlawler.com type in there and get a few printed.
Here's the sketch:

Here's the more finished version of what I wanted. Minus the shitty texture job:

Also last weekend I took a trip to Minneapolis. Always a great time, this time was even better. I stayed with some friends from MCAD (Minneapolis College of Art and Design) and got to see some great artwork and hang out with some amazing artists.

Still working on the site...
-----------------------------------
Still adding things to the site getting it all ready - here's an assignment I had in typography class to illustrate an "extreme" word, or something like that. Not so extreme but here it is.

New site!
-----------------------------------
Finally, finally, finally - Not only do I have my portfolio site launched, I have my own domain name for the first time ever. What a relief.
From now on you can find any information on me and my artwork all through this site, www.joshlawler.com.
I also just got my brand new macbook pro, which is another huge relief. Leopard is unbelievable, as is the whole computer itself. I have the whole adobe suite too, so you'll be seeing plenty of artwork coming from me from now on, not to mention many other good things.
Stay tuned there will be a lot of additions made to the site within the next few weeks!
Until then, make sure to check the "contact" section of the new website and find my myspace, etc.
